write the slope intercept form of the equation of the line passing through the point (-5, -4) and parallel to the line y=-2x-2. And can you explain it to si i can understand it :)
Determine whether the graphs of -8x-2y=0 and x-4y=5 are perpendicular. Explain it too :)
Thank you!!

Slope intercept form OR more commonly known as the standard formula for a straight line is
y = mx + c
where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept when x is 0
Given y = -2x - 2
-2 is the gradient of the line and since you're told they're parallel, the gradient you're after is -2 as well
Plugging (-5, -4) into the equation
-4 = -2 * -5 + c
c = -14
Hence, y = -2x -14
===
Determining whether lines are parallel you just have to compare gradients of the 2 lines
since m1*m2 = -1 for a line to be perpendicular
-2*m2 = -1
m2 = 1/2
Arrange equations to standard form y=mx+c for easier comparison
-2y = 8x
y = -4x
m2 has to be 1/2 for line to be perpendicular
First line is NOT perpendicular
x-4y = 5
y = -1/4x +5/4
m2 again is not 1/2
Second line is NOT perpendicular
