and 251pounds. What was the weight of the fifth lineman?......
So the answer to this problem is 254 lbs.

The five linemen averaged 268 pounds. four of the linemen weighed 280, 262, 293, and 251pounds. What was the weight of the fifth lineman?

-
well first you multiply 268 by the number of men which is 5 then you add the four wieghts which were given then you subtract to find the two answers to find the missin weight 268 mulitply by 5 =1340 280+262+293+251-=1086 1340-1086=254

-
first lineman = 280
second lineman = 262
third lineman = 293
fourth lineman = 251
fifth lineman = x

average A = (280 + 262 + 293 + 251 + x)/ 5 = 268
(1086 + x)/5 = 268/1 (crossed product)
x + 1086 = 1340 (solve for x)
x = 1340 - 1086
x = 254 lbs (answer)
