If I am making all A's in algebra but it takes more work and study to succeed in this subject than in others, is this a sign that I should not attempt trigonometry and calculus? Keep in mind I have to work very hard to get A's in math.

Taking time to learn properly is a good thing.
Ask your self, how am I studying? Am just memorizing formulas? Or, am I taking time to understand why the work?
Math is all about solving problems with a strict set of rules using logic and creativity. This is a skill which when developed, will do more for you than anything else you learn in school. You will always have problems of some sort to solve, and it is always advantageous to be able to look at the limitations (rules) and what they imply.
A few suggestions from a veteran math student:
1) Read a head. You will not understand what you read 90% of the time, but you will lay the ground work for class.
2) Try to understand why you are taking the steps you are taking.
3) Try not to just cram for hours in a day. Give yourself breaks. Your mind needs time to ruminate with what you have learned. You can often learn a lot more studying 45 minutes a day then 10 hours in a single session.

If you work really hard and study you will achieve good grades in math. It seems math isn't your strong subject so I wouldn't recommend going past Pre-calculus
