Hi,
Soybeans are planted on a 48-acre field. The field is divided into one-acre subplots. A sample is taken from each subplot to estimate the harvest. The book answers says it is a stratified sample, but shouldn't a stratified sample involve grouping populations into subsets which share similar characteristics? It seems that all of the soybeans in the field are alike, and all of the one-acre plots seem the same. Thank you!

There are 48 strata. Or there is only one stratum. Or you did not read the whole entire question yet :)
