The diagram below shows a rectangular garden with walkways along the diagonals. A fountain is located at point F, which is the center of the park. Carl enters the park through the west gate and walks (5x – 9) yards to reach the fountain. Mervin enters the park through the east gate and walks (3x + 1) yards to reach the same spot.

What is the approximate distance Carl walks to reach the fountain from the west gate of the park?
The answers are 11, 16, 26, and 34
I cant find the right answer. I know you have to do 5x - 9 = 3x + 1 and plug in the number choices but none of them fit. Help please?

the answer is 16, you solve the problem 5x - 9 = 3x + 1 to find x then substitute that into the formula Carl walked to get the distance.
5x - 9 = 3x + 1
x = 5
5(5)-9 = 16
5x - 9 = 3x + 1
x = 5
5(5)-9 = 16
