My gf is a math major and over the past 2 semesters she has been struggling with her high level courses. She did very well in undergrad school for her BA, but getting her masters is proving to be much more of a challenge. She is failing tests and in some cases leaving entire questions blank! She justifies this by complaining about the test and the teacher, and saying that half of the class scored as low as she did and were also lost. She says it's common in math grad school to fail tests and have the teacher curve it and still pass the class. Is this true?
What are some good ways for her to get some help on such advanced subjects?

Masters in math is no joke. It is on a totally different level compared to a BA. She really needs to work hard. No failing tests is not common - at least at my university. While it is true that some people who fail will pass due to curving, it is not a good place to be. In my university no math teacher curves anything. That only happens for engineering courses.
I did my bachelors in engineering and then did my masters in physics. Needless to say, it was hard indeed. But not once did I ever fail an exam or test.
