These were on my math test and I ended up getting a bad score... Please just tell me the answer so I can see if I got it right or wrong, thanks!
Problem 1: Julie and Lila are twin sisters so they are the same age. Their little sister, Emily is 1/3 times younger than the twins and the sum of all 3 siblings' is 42. How old are Julie, Lila and Emily? I got 18 for the twins and 6 for Emily... Did I get it right?
Problem 2: There were 2-point and 3-point questions on a math test. Katie couldn't remember how many 2-point and 3-point questions she got, but there were a total of 42 questions. Her friend told her you could get 100 points if you got all the correct answers (DUH, haha) how many of each point questions did Katie get?
Problem 2 was really hard because it didn't provide a lot of information to solve it... I might have forgotten info but yeah, sorry!

The first problem is correct
2x + x1/3 = 42
multiply by 3 all terms to make them whole numbers
3(2x)+ 3(x1/3) = 3(42)
6x +x = 126
7x=127
divide by 7
x=18
since Emily is 1/3 younger multiply 18 by 1/3
and you get 6
which is correct
the answer for the second one is
16--3point questions = 48
26--2point question = 52
add those two and it gives you a 100

if the little sister is 1/3 younger, then she is 2/3 as old
x + x + 2x/3 = 42
8x/3 = 42
8x = 126
x = 15 3/4
little sister = 10 1/2
I imagine the problem wanted 1/3 as old (not 1/3 younger) - poorly written question
x + x + 2x/3 = 42
8x/3 = 42
8x = 126
x = 15 3/4
little sister = 10 1/2

You definitely got problem 1 correct. I'm not understanding what you're asking in problem two. It really does not make sense. Are you talking about yourself or a problem on the test?????
