(x+7) (x-1) =(x+1)^2 i know the answer is 2

Okay,
So (x+1)^2 really means (x+1) (x+1) you have to multiply them out, to do this you multiply everything in the 1st bracket by everthing in the 2nd one,
X * x = x^2
X * 1 = x
1 * x = x
1 * 1 = 1
So you end up with x^2 + x + x + 1
Symplify:
X^2 + 2x + 1
Do this with the first two brackets aswell, you will end up with
X^2 -x +7x -7
Symplify:
X^2 + 6x - 7
Finished sum:
X^2+6x-7 = x^2+2x+1
You can minus x^2 on both sides, so you get
6x+7=2x+1
Takeway 2x on both sides
4x+7=1
Minus 7 on both sides
4x= -6
Divide by 4
X=-1.5
Rounded = 2 ?
.... I hope that made sense :/
Could be wrong by the way.. X

(x + 7)(x - 1) = (x + 1)^2
x^2 - x + 7x - 7 = x^2 + x + x + 1
x^2 + 6x - 7 = x^2 + 2x + 1
6x - 7 = 2x + 1 (subtract x^2 from both sides)
4x - 7 = 1 (subtract 2x from both sides)
4x = 8 (add 7 to both sides)
x = 2 (divide both sides by 4)
x^2 - x + 7x - 7 = x^2 + x + x + 1
x^2 + 6x - 7 = x^2 + 2x + 1
6x - 7 = 2x + 1 (subtract x^2 from both sides)
4x - 7 = 1 (subtract 2x from both sides)

(x + 7)(x - 1) = (x + 1)^2
(x + 7)(x - 1) = (x + 1)(x + 1)
x^2 -x + 7x - 7 = x^2 + x + x + 1
x^2 + 6x - 7 = x^2 + 2x + 1
(x^2 + 6x - 7) - (x^2 + 2x + 1) = 0
(0 + 4x - 8) = 0
4x - 8 = 0
4x = 8
x = 2
(x + 7)(x - 1) = (x + 1)(x + 1)
x^2 -x + 7x - 7 = x^2 + x + x + 1

(0 + 4x - 8) = 0
4x - 8 = 0
4x = 8

This website isn't supposed to help you do your homework. This math problem was incredibly easy and if you had to ask on yahoo for help i suggest you see a tutor at your school.
