Find the variance for the following set of data: 12.5, 12.7, 14.9, 11.3, 11.7,10.9

(If this is a more advanced stats class, you need to use V(X)= E(X^2)+[E(X)^2].)-www.youtube.......
Not really sure how to do this so any help would be appreciated. :)

It's a little bit of work. First you need to find the mean of the set, and then you have to subtract the mean from each data point and divide it all by the number of data points. To do this problem:

Mean = (12.5+12.7+14.0+11.3+11.7+10.9)/6 = 12.3

Variance = [(12.5-12.3)^2+(12.7-12.3)^2+(14.9-12.3)… = 1.675 = 1.7

(If this is a more advanced stats class, you need to use V(X)= E(X^2)+[E(X)^2].)
