4(2y-4)=5y+2
Can somebody please show me how to solve for y?

4(2y-4)=5y+2
Distribute:
8y-16=5y+2
Get y on one side (Minus 5y)
3y-16=2
Get whole numbers on one side (Add 16)
3y=18
Divide 3y on both sides
y=6

First get rid of the parentheses

8y-16=5y+2

collect similar terms

8y-5y=2+16

3y=18

y=6

8y -16 = 5y +2

3y = 18

y = 6
