Working together, how many envelopes can Ed and Pete stuff in 50 minutes?324/60 = 5.468/90 = 5.5.4 + 5.......
Ed can stuff 324 envelopes in 1 hour.
Pete can stuff 468 envelopes in 90 minutes.
Working together, how many envelopes can Ed and Pete stuff in 50 minutes?

A) 530
B) 556
C) 570
D) 638
E) 792

if ed stuff 324 in one hour he stuffs
324/60 = 5.4 envelopes in one minute

petes stuffs
468/90 = 5.2 envelopes in one minute

together they stuff
5.4 + 5.2 = 10.6 envelopes in one minute

50 * 10.6 = 530 envelopes in 50 minutes

Let me break it down for you :)
Ed can stuff 324 in 1hr like you said
Pete can stuff 468 in 1.5 hr which equates to 312 in 1hr

Now it would be easier to deal with these numbers if they were in minutes so let's convert them by dividing by 60 minutes to get
ed = 5.4 per min
pete = 5.2 per min

To get their total for fifty minutes you have to do the following and then plug in your numbers
(number stuffed per min by ed)(time in min) + (number stuffed by pete)(time in min) = total stuffed
(5.4)(50) + (5.2)(50) = 530

So, working together they can stuff 530 envelopes in 50 minutes :)
I hope this helps you out!

half the fun of a word problem is getting it into the numbers
so let's have fun

what do we know???
Ed = 324/60
Pete = 468/90
so how many do they stuff every 10 mintes?
Ed = 324/60 = 54/10
Pete = 468/90 = 52/10

Ed and Pete = 52 + 54 every 10 minutes
106 X 5 =

and you have it from here - -- hear - -- oh rats
I am going for pizza

all the best

-
324 env / hr • 1 hr / 60 min = 324/60 = 5.4 env / min
468 env / 90 min = 5.2 env / min
together, 10.6 env / min, so
50 min • 10.6 env / min = 530 env ∙ ∙ ∙ ∙ ∙ answer A
