How do I solve this algebra equation

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-08] [Hit: ]
It works.x = 1/4-Bring all x towards left side you will get 7x-2x-x which equals 4x ...-2-3 equals -5 now x=-5/4 is required answer-Add 2 to both sides.Subtract 7x from both sides.......
7x-(2x+3)=x-2

How do I do this?

-
The minus sign outside of the parentheses is like multiplying everything inside by -1.

7x - 2x - 3 = x - 2

5x - 3 = x - 2

4x = 1

x = 1/4

To check the answer, substitute 1/4 for x in the original equation.

7(1/4) - (2(1/4) + 3) = (1/4) - 2

7/4 - (2/4 + 12/4) = 1/4 - 8/4

7/4 - 14/4 = -7/4

-7/4 = -7/4

It works.

ANSWER

x = 1/4

-
Bring all x towards left side you will get 7x-2x-x which equals 4x ... Now take numerals towards right side
-2-3 equals -5 now x=-5/4 is required answer

-
Add 2 to both sides. End up with 7x-(2xplus5)=x
Subtract 7x from both sides. -2x+5=-6x
Add 2x to both sides. 5=-4x
Divide -4 to both. X= 5/4 or 1.25

-
7x − 2x − 3 = x − 2
5x − 3 = x − 2
5x − x = − 2 + 3
4x = 1
x = ¼.
