Hi Yahoo answers please help me?
I have a test on conic sections. I have to know how to identify them a ellipse, circle, hyperbola, or parabola. I have NO idea how to recognize them. PLEASE help me. I took notes in class and I pay attentioned. Please explain it in you own words so I can understand it easier. I hear the teacher say coefficient blab la bla. It might be a stupid question but what is a coeficicient when we are talking about cillpsed, circes, hyperbola or parabola.
Thank you so much. It mean a lot.

Parabola: y = ax² + bx + c
Circle: a(x - h)² + a(y - k)² = r²
Ellipse: [(x - h)² / a] + [(y - k)² / b] = 1
Hyperbola: [(x - h)² / a] - [(y - k)² / b) = 1
Notice that the ellipse and the hyperbola equations look almost identical. The only difference is the sign between the major terms.
