does the x in front of the parenthesis always = 0 or do you distribute first. Thanks for any help.

The x in front won't always equal 0 but it can. What the equation x(x-1)=0 is saying is that x = 0 and x-1=0. Which means that x can either be 0 or 1. Same goes for x(x-1)=2... x=2 and x-1=2. So, x can equal either 2 or 3.

For your second one it would be x(x-1) - 2
x is 0 there too :)
