Measuring resistance using mutimeter

Im assuming you put the two meter leads on the two wires of the resistor.-The resistor is an open circuit.......
It's a very basic question but... how do I measure resistance of 100-ohm carbon-film resistor? I detached it from the breadboard, set multimeter to 200 ohms max and all it's showing me is blinking "1" in the first field and nothing in others. I was able to measure voltage just fine but not sure if I'm doing it right.

A 100 ohm carbon film resistor can be read in the 200 ohms max range and should not result in blinking. You can take a pen-knife and scrape the leads of the resistor to remove oxides that prevent conduction. Check the probes of the multimeter to see they are properly connected to the meter and they should be clean. If all is done and the results do not come, then probably the resistor has a defect.

That usually means the resistance is over full scale, 200 ohms in this case. Try a higher range, like 2000 or 20k. But it may be totally open.

To check the meter, try a known good resistor. Also check it by clipping the leads together. I'm assuming you put the two meter leads on the two wires of the resistor.

The resistor is an open circuit.
