From what I know, metal can't scratch glass but you see so much scratches on glass surfaces, one starts to wonder...
Thank you very much!

"Metal or ceramic objects" is a very broad category. Most ceramics are as hard or harder than glass so absolutely some ceramics can scratch glass. Glass consists of mostly SiO2 (silica) so anything that is as hard as SiO2 can scratch it. Sand and dirt contain SiO2 and other ceramic minerals. Metals come in a very wide range of hardnesses but, in general, metals will not scratch glass. And... a soft metal can certainly get a piece of sand embedded in the surface and that can then scratch glass.

Note: abrasion, although related to 'hardness' of a material, can be a more complex matter.
ie. something not ' as hard as diamond can scratch a diamond. When wear occurs, material is often lost by both surfaces - it's just the rate of wear that's different.
Paper could even wear glass - @slow rate.
