Best way to get experience as an engineer

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-04-19] [Hit: ]
I have great imagination and know math and physics and also some electronics but i really dont have any real life experience except some home built circuits of mine (electronic dice, electromagnetic levitator, flip flop circuit and a couple more) . What can i do to get some experience at my age? I was thinking of working somewhere but what can i do? ( i dont really care what type of engineering it is,......
The only thing i've wanted to become was an engineer ever since i can remember. In 2nd grade all kids wanted to become President i was the only one wanting to become an engineer.
I'm graduating high-school this year and going to an electronic engineer faculty at a good engineering university. The thing is i acknowledge what being an engineer is and that the most important things you need are Knowledge, Imagination and experience. I have great imagination and know math and physics and also some electronics but i really don't have any real life experience except some home built circuits of mine (electronic dice, electromagnetic levitator, flip flop circuit and a couple more) .
What can i do to get some experience at my age? I was thinking of working somewhere but what can i do? ( i don't really care what type of engineering it is, i'd also love to help as a sub mechanic or something at a service auto or something ) any advice?

First you got to remember a mechanic is much different than an engineer. That last statement about being a submechanic or working at an auto service would typically not require an engineering degree. Those types of jobs are much more "hands on" than engineering jobs. The majority of engineering jobs are behind a desk (a disadvantage in many people's minds).

Right now, given the limited knowledge you likely have at your age, it would just be best to go to library and look through some introductory/beginner engineering books. The best experience you can obtain at your age is through an internship, and since you aren't in school yet you won't be able to get one of them jobs. Having knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical/electronics engineering (that's what it seems you would be into from your first statement about circuits), and engineering in general, will put you at an advantage when you get to school. I've been working in the engineering field for awhile now and its still funny to see these "experienced" engineers having little knowledge of the fundamentals.
