Ok, I am interested in making an alarm clock that can have several alarms throughout the day and can be programmed to produce different sounds at different times (for instance at 10:00 it would say "wake up" and at 11:00, "you're late"). I don't need a display; I just want it to produce sound when I want it to. I would be fine building it from scratch, but I want it to be relatively cheap (is $20 to $30 reasonable? It may get confiscated, so it can't be too expensive). Also it needs to be battery powered, have a charge life of about 72 hours, and very loud. Can anyone give me advice and/or point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Great idea for a project. You can build one for way under your budget. All you need is a cheap micro-controller, an oscillator, a buzzer and maybe some miscellaneous parts like resistors and capacitors.
Look up some PIC or AVR tutorials online.
