U seem to get it mixed up,Battery is just a medium to hold Electric Charge(Electrical Energy) which gets used up.This Electric charge shows up a potential difference or voltage which is the ability to drive Electric current,

Its got to be energy or power, power is energy, (ENERGY per second, the Watt) A battery can only have a certain amount of chemical ENERGY, when this is gone it cant provide an emf to push the current round.
