I just want to know some of the different things electrical engineers do. Not day to day things but actually different careers in electrical engineering. Also what is the highest paying area in electrical engineering thanks.

The two main electrical engineering disciplines are:
1. heavy electrical = power systems engineering
This includes Utility Distribution Systems design - substations, transmission lines, transformers etc. all the way through to industrial and commercial installations (including lighting, heating, aircon and ventilation design) and even domestic distribution lines and cables and unusual domestic installations. Also Generation Systems design aka Power Stations such as thermal, wind, solar and specialist areas like nuclear power engineering.
2. light electrical = electronic engineering
As well as conventional analog and digital system design, this includes an ever increasing diverse range of fields such as mechatronics, autotronics, microcontroller systems, bio-medical engineering design, even some aspects of environmental engineering such as building energy efficiency engineering.
In my experience most areas can be well-paid, but the "niche" areas like bio-medical engineering are the highest paid of all.
