Hi
I am doing a report on which systems last longer hydraulic or pneumatic, and the advantages/ disadvantages with them both. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Depends on what they are used for, what conditions they operate in, and how well they are maintained. There are examples of both types that have operated trouble free for many years and examples of both that have failed the first time they were used.
Proper design is important. If you have a system rated to operate at, say, 100 psi and it operates it at 100 psi, it will not last as long as a system rated for 200 psi that is operated at 100 psi. If you have a system that operates once each day, it will last longer than one that operates 60 times a minute, 24/7. The applied load is important, in general, hydraulics are used to apply higher loads than pneumatics and pneumatics operate faster. Operating temperature is important. Vibration is important. Cleanliness of the oil/air is important. Length of travel is important. Duty cycle is important. Corrosion is important. How long do you expect the system last? How difficult will it be to access the system for maintenance? What are the consequences if it fails? These are only some of the considerations that will impact the design and performance.
