The person who set the question doesn't appear to understand reality. Then again, perhaps you're referring to personal diaries rather than scientific journals. (This happens to be the Earth Sciences and Geology section!) I'll assume that to be the case.

In the case of personal diaries, the writer's impressions are obviously liable to colour the record. After all, they're the one writing the stuff. It may involve a record of personal reactions, but won't necessarily. I've no idea if the writer happened to be an eyewitness. They might write an entry about events on the other side of the world or another planet. It's their diary, and they can write what they like.

From those three b.seems most apt.

However, should they happen to be collating a diary with a view to subsequent publication, something that's quite commonly down in, for example, politics, then a willingness to play to the readership may well occur as well. Going back a bit, Caesar's record of the Gaulian Wars wasn't written for military historians. His personal account was aimed at the powerful in Rome and, among other things, he hoped to persuade them as to just how damned good Gaius Julius Caesar was.

a. can often apply too. A diary may well involve elements of persuasion of others.
