Most of these answers are correct. There are different sources of minerals that end up making the ocean taste salty. Rocks do breakdown into minerals that are dissolved in the waters that cause the erosion. Most come from rivers that flow for great distances and pick up minerals on their trip to the ocean. Other sources of dissolved solids are volcanic eruptions. These discharge large amounts of minerals that end up in the ocean and then break down into their various ions. There is also an exchange that takes place at the ocean floor where the ocean water is in contact with the ocean floor, which is also rock.
The ocean is actually only 96.5 % water and 3.5 % dissolved solids. What is interesting is the fact that water that evaporates from the ocean is fresh which leaves behind a greater amount of solids. Then rivers themselves discharge large amounts of dissolved solids and sediments into the ocean. Over time the ocean will become saltier and saltier.

It is the chloride ion that makes it salty. Most of the salt is NaCl but in water they become ions and the chlorine makes it taste salty to humans.
