10 points for best answer. And thank you so much I really appreciate it-Everything is under the phenol red page on Wikipedia, but Ill explain as best I can.(a) pKa = -log(Ka).Therefore, if the pKa is 7.......
(a) What is its Ka?
(b) What is its pH range?
(c) What would its color be at pH 7.4

Please help me guys, I know the answers but I really would like to see how to solve this problem. I've searched the book cover to cover but our textbook skips certain concepts so I really don't know how to do it. 10 points for best answer. And thank you so much I really appreciate it

Everything is under the phenol red page on Wikipedia, but I'll explain as best I can.

(a) pKa = -log(Ka). Therefore, if the pKa is 7.4, Ka equals 10^-7.4, which equals 3.98 x 10^-8.

(b) The pH range of phenol red is 6.8 (yellow) to 8.2 (bright reddish-pink).

(c) At pH 7.4, the solution would be a mixture of red and yellow, so it would be orange.
