CONFUSEDDDD FeCl2 is iron (II) chloride, but ZnCl2 is zinc chloride.. SHOULDN'T IT BE Zinc(II)chloride

It doesnt make sense-Iron (Fe) has multiple ions, including Fe2+ and Fe3+, which is why you have to distinguish whether it is a 2+ (II) or 3+ (III) ion. Zinc (Zn) is always a 2+ ion and so you dont need the (II) when writing the name of the compound. Hope this helps.-Maybe.......
... why isn't ZnCl2 called Zinc(II)Chloride? It doesn't make sense

Maybe. Iron has 2 normal oxidation states Fe(II)and Fe (III). Been a while since Chem class, by=ut I think Zinc has only one normal oxidation state, (II) so it doesn't need to be specified.
