How much NaCl do you need to add to 100 mls of water to make a.5M solution of Nacl

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-03-13] [Hit: ]
Since you are only given 100 ml, you only need 0.5/10 = 0.Since the Mr NaCl is 23.0 + 35.5 = 58.......
So 1 mole= 40 grams of Nacl
Please explain in detail step by step. Thanks

A 0.5M solution of NaCl would mean 0.5 moles of NaCl in 1000 ml of solution.

Since you are only given 100 ml, you only need 0.5/10 = 0.05 moles of NaCl

Since the Mr NaCl is 23.0 + 35.5 = 58.5

Mass of NaCl needed = 58.5 x 0.05 ( Mass = moles x Mr)
= 2.925 g
= 2.93 g (Rounded to 3 significant figures)

Hope this helped :)
