How is a phospholipid bilayer formed

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-12-20] [Hit: ]
they arrange themselves so the heads are facing water, and the tails are not - forming a bilayer.......
Another question from my finals study guide that I cannot find the answer to. Please help(:

-
Well each individual phospholipid has a phosphate head, which has a charge (polar). It is hydrophillic so is attracted to water.

Each has a fatty acid/lipid tail, which has no charge (non polar). It is hydrophobic and is repelled by water.

Since the cytoplasm and the surroundings contain water, they arrange themselves so the heads are facing water, and the tails are not - forming a bilayer.
