hello, i will be taking organic chemistry+lab this upcoming fall. my professor suggests on purchasing an organic lab techniques book (costs about $100 and student budget). i was wondering if this is really necessary to do well in the lab? would i be ok just by following my lab instructor's instructions instead? thank you.

It's nice to have a book like that. You should check amazon for a used book or even one that is a previous edition (you won't being doing anything in orgo lab that they didn't know about 30 years ago). Doing well in organic lab (ie. good yields, pure samples) is all about having good technique. You should be able to find the book or a suitable one for cheap.

I can't vouch for this book being a good one as I haven't used it but it will cost you ~5 dollars. I used Zubrick:http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0…

my brother took that class and if he wasnt sure of technique he just google it before his lab. so you should be ok. maybe you and your partner can split the cost. or also my brother buys a lot of used books off amazon.
