covalent. intermolecular is weak. Example is graphite. Each layer consists of covalent bonds, but layer is bond to another layer by intermolecular bond, and when you write it slides off.

covalent bonding is stronger than intermolecular forces, however, there are many types of intermolecular forces that occur. These differing types of intermolecular forces include: hydrogen bonding and London dispersion forces --> these different types of intermolecular bonds will have differing strengths, although, overall will be weaker than covalent bonding.
