That's why it's known as the North Star. The earth's celestial pole points very close to it. By about 2100 AD, it will be even closer to Polaris than it is right now. Then over the centuries, the celestial pole will start moving away from Polaris. That means the constellation Orion will start moving southward so that by about 14,000 AD, it will be completely invisible from the latitude of Great Britain.

Polaris is very close to the north celestial pole. It only makes a tiny circle every 24 hours.
