What does "one seed leaf" mean

I know it's a monocotyledon but I mean what does 'one seed leaf' physically mean about the plant?

Thanks! :]

Consider a peanut, a dicot ("two seed leaf") The part you eat is the SEED LEAF.

But if you CAREFULLY split the dicots, in one end you will see a little bump. THAT is the part that will become the root and stem of the new plant..

The Seed Leaves hold nutrients that the plant uses while it is still under ground, and just as it first emerges. [AND, the Seed LEAF tastes good to US, too!] As soon as it emerges, it begins to grow leaves, and the dicots are no longer needed. The simple fall off.

in SOME plants, the dicots will actually follow up the stem, and you can see then on the stem on the baby plant. In other plants the dicots will stay under ground, providing ,nourishment until the leave begin to function.

A MONOCOT has only one part. These include most grasses, like wheat, oats, rice, and corn. Examine the seeds -- only one part, not TWO like peanuts, peas, beans, etc

Monocots handle their endosperm differently.
Monocots have lots of endosperm remaining in their mature seeds along with the food stores transferred to the single seed leaf. The cotyledon serves two functions once the seed has germinated and sent out the root radicle and the seed leaf.
1 - The seed leaf has pathways that serve to absorb nutrients packaged in the seed and process them for growth until the seedling is able to produce its first true leaves and begin a more efficient rate of photosynthesis.
2 - The seed leaf has a beginning level of photosynthesis so it is partially self supportive.

Most dicot seeds have little or no endosperm left in the seed by maturity, it is present in the pair of cotyledons. The cotyledons no longer have to process the transfer of endosperm to their structure or only continue the process briefly once germinated. They begin growth with more active leaf area and dedication to photosynthesis.
