Why or why not?

Fossil evidence suggests that about 99.9999% of all the species that have ever lived on earth are extinct. This bodes ill for us.
On the upside... The dinosaur's reigned on earth for many millions of years although there were many species of dionsaurs which came and went during this time (I am not sure if any dinosaur species were around from beginning to end of their reign).
On the downside... Modern humans have been wildly successful in a very short time. If scientists are right that there may have been only a few tens of thousands of humans surviving the last Ice Age, then we have gone from, say 70,000 humans to 7,000,000,000 humans in about 10,000 years. Given how much we have impacted the planet, chances are that we may not adapt rapidly enough to survive if the next 10,000 years goes like the last 10,000 (even if earth does not have an ice age).

Maybe, although I assume it may be the result of a natural disaster. For a start it will be the end of all life as we know it on earth in a few billion years when the sun dies. But before then it may be possible that a flare on the sun may kill off human race. Humans have grew to a amazing population and live on almost all continents. Therefor if humans were to die off it would almost certainly have to be a natural disaster that we have no control over. This question can be debated continuously and cannot really be answers in a few paragraphs.
The answer to you question is yes, it will eventually happen, just like the other 99% of all other species that have ever lived on earth. The only thing that is not certain it how.

Extinct? Probably not for a good many centuries, if not eons. However, we can expect the population to be heavily decimated within a decade or 2 due to overpopulation. Global war, famine and/or plague due to overpopulation can be expected to destroy civilization as we know it. Billions will die. A few, probably no one you or I know, will survive. But, life will be so miserable, that I doubt I would want to be among them.

Of course we will eventually, we do adapt however by the time human intelligence has reached a state as to where we can travel by light years there won't be enough resources left on this earth to actually achieve that. That way Earth is going it might only be another couple million years till the earth is completely messed up.

No we are kinda hard to kill off. Plus we adapt
