for example, the Earth and other planets and our Sun are not quite spherical due to spreading because of their spin -- the Earths equatorial radius is about 1/297 bigger than its polar radius.)-its a combined factor of a few things ill give you a simple list.1.) they spin the spin allows the molten original mass of a planet to form a sphere2.) Their gravity is sufficient to pull their material into a (roughly) spherical shape (I say roughly, because, for example, the Earth and other planets and our Sun are not quite spherical due to spreading because of their spin -- the Earth's equatorial radius is about 1/297 bigger than its polar radius.)

1.) they spin the spin allows the molten original mass of a planet to form a sphere
2.) Gravity the center point of gravity pulls equally from all directions and a sphere is a point in space where all the points are the same distant from the center there for it would be very improbable for a planet to be any other shape.

Mass causes gravity. Gravity pulls in all directions. Gravity pulls in all directions. Things get attracted to the center of mass. Large objects usually do this because spheres have the highest volume. And the center, gravity attracts mass to the center. Spheres allow everything to be close to the central mass.

Its all to do with gravity, the planets, suns and moons pull matter together in an almost spherical shape. Gravity is a cool thing

-
because thats how the matter and atoms built up on and the gravity pulled it in like that so it can go around im pretty sure a square planet wont be able to do things our plantet does

-
because gravity acts as a field not direct convectional currents.

-
because they have enough mass to pull themselves into a spherical shape.

Great question!
