If VY Canis Majoris were to go Hypernova, would earth be destroyed

-At about 4,000 light years away it is much too far away for it to be a concern to us. There are no stars that can Nova, hyper, super or otherwise that could harm us on Earth. It would be like wondering if a firecracker in New York would harm you in Seattle.......
The initial question is in the title. But to go into further detail.
I have been looking around, searching this exact question, with no one answering it. So, if VY Canis Majoris would to go Hypernova (Not Core-Collapse) would it obliterate/annihilate/destroy/rip-apart/… Earth?

It would be like wondering if a firecracker in New York would harm you in Seattle.

It would indeed be a bright thing in the sky and pretty close to Sirius, just down and to the left.

If the energy spreads out spherically then the intensity would be inversely proportional to the square of the distance and it would not affect us at all. However, it is possible for the energy to be focused into two tight spikes from the poles, in which case the intensity stays for much further. Fortunately the poles are not pointed in our direction. However the poles of WR-104 appear to be focused towards us and it's due to supernova soon too. Fortunately, it doesn't take much for the aim to be off and then we would be safe.

No it would not, VY Canis Majoris is 3,900 light years away or around 3,510,000,000,000,000,000 kilometers away. The blast would only go a few light years outwards.

-
No.

It is too far away.

But we would get a pretty new star in the sky for awhile.

Cheers!

-
As big as it is, it's still too far away to affect us.

-
No but we would get a shinning star of david!

-
No it's to far away.
