Why is it late out and the sun is still out

are your parents complete morons.Hey, look, do this for me.Find a table of sunrise/sunset times for your location.Observe the time differences between summer and winter.......
Its like 8:30 and the sun has been setting around this time everyday why would this be my parents say its the end of the world and the god is coming or something or is there an explanation for this?

-
Ha! Seriously? The earth rotates on its axis but it deviates towards and away from the sun as it does so and thats what gives us summer and winter. In the summer months we deviate towards the sun so the sun sets later in the evening than in the winter when we are deviating away from it. The further you are from the equator the difference in sunset times between summer and winter will be greater as the deviation is greater there

My God, man, I see from your profile that you have just finished freshman year and want to be an engineer.

How then can you ask such an inane question, are your parents complete morons.

Hey, look, do this for me. Find a table of sunrise/sunset times for your location. Observe the time differences between summer and winter. Observe the fact that these times are identical to 100 years ago and 100 years in the future.

I gotta add this one to my list of daftest questions on Astronomy and Space. Thanks for that.

PS if you had been 6 years old I would have not been so harsh on you.

The Earth is tilted on it's axis and that is why we have seasons. When it is summer in your location you are tilted towards the sun and you receive more sun light.

Above the Arctic Circle in the summer time the sun NEVER sets. This happens every year, nothing new.

It's called "Summer." It happens every year, and has happened every year for millions of years.
