Has Nasa or any other space program related to the US found anything important in space since around 2008

What I am talking about is like a breakthrough discovery.

Space programs make new discoveries daily. And by nature of the fact they are "new discoveries" they can be discovered breakthroughs. There are also immense secondary breakthroughs that go with space programs. Because of the rigors, costs of space travel and need to push the envelope these programs fund immense research in industry fields related to engineering such as manufacturing, materials, data analysis etc etc... For example, many materials and manufacturing processes integral to our modern world were pioneered and perfected decades ago in making advanced rocketry, robotics, mirrors, signals... Likewise, these programs today are pioneering technology in the process of understanding space that will eventually trickle down to the industrial and consumer markets and benefit us in the future.

Edit: In response to the poster that says space programs have never given breakthroughs... In 2011 NASA scientists discovered arsenic based life. This finding literally altered the fundamental definition of what we know is life. I'm sorry, but if you don't think a finding that fundamentally changes what biologists see as life itself as a breakthrough then you are wholly ignorant.

harley that is very negative of you. They make discoveries on a daily basis. Huge ones? Yes, some. Some planets that may harbor life. Those are huge discoveries if you ask me
