Yuri Gagarin was the first man to orbit the Earth in a shuttle, according to Google, is this true

However, Yuri was the first human to orbit Earth.-Your father doesnt know everything, and watching pseudo-documentaries on the Science channel or whatever does not make one an expert. The files from that time have been opened, and the early Soviet space program is pretty well documented.......

And now you know the rest of the story.

Shuttles did not exist then. Therefore, if you want to be very technical about it, it was impossible for humans to orbit Earth in a shuttle before the shuttle was built. This means that about a hundred humans went in space BEFORE the first human orbited Earth IN A SHUTTLE.

However, Yuri was the first human to orbit Earth.

Your father doesn't know everything, and watching pseudo-documentaries on the Science channel or whatever does not make one an expert. The files from that time have been opened, and the early Soviet space program is pretty well documented. There were no deaths on any of the early flights by the initial cosmonaut group. The only man from that group who died did so later in a plane crash after he had be dismissed from the program. These stories of "lost cosmonauts" are based on myths and hoaxes.

It is true that Yuri Gagarin was the first man to orbit the Earth, but not in a shuttle. He rode in a space capsule, much smaller than a shuttle, about the size of a phone booth. I suppose technically he didn't orbit the Earth because he landed before he completed a full orbit, but everyone gives him the credit, and rightly so.

"He was the first human being to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on April 12, 1961."

"On that day in 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space, making a 108-minute orbital flight in his Vostok 1 spacecraft."

The only part of that statement with which I disagree is the word "shuttle". The space shuttle didn't exist yet when he orbited the Earth.

The spacecraft used for Yuri Gargarin was called Vostok 1. And yes he was the first man to orbit Earth.

-
Yes, it is true he was the first human in space and the first human to orbit the Earth, but it wasn't in a space shuttle.
.

-
Not in a shuttle; it was in a Vostok 1 spacecraft.

-
No, he never rode or piloted a shuttle. He was the first man to orbit the Earth but it was in a Vostok craft.

-
No, not in a shuttle, but a capsule.

-
I saw him in persn on April 16th, I did!

Yuri GAGArin...brings me the image of his Pokerface.
