Where does the light comes from so we see stars at night

I'm a little confused about what stars are, I know that some are planets but how about the rest? Our sun is a star also right?

Stars are seen because they generate and emit light that reaches our eyes. It is like a candle in total darkness that an be seen by the light it emits. This light gets reflected from other nearby objects that won't emit light (like walls). Planets are seen because they reflect light.
A star's light is humongous (like our Sun) and so they are seen even at enormous distances. If one of those bright (naked eye visible) stars is kept in Sun's location, we wouldn't even turn our eyes to it as the light is so dazzling, far more than our Sun's. Some stars are so far away, or not that bright reckoned at their distance from us, that their light doesn't even register on our retinas and so we don't see them. A telescope is the visual aid in such situations that gathers light from a bigger area than our eyes and thus the invisible-to-naked-eye star is brought out to be a 'dot' of light.

Under immense pressure and a lot of heat the hydrogen pairs up and turns in to helium, this is called hydro fusion. This releases energy (in heat, sound, light etc.) and this light travels, and we see the stars.

Stars are not planets.

Stars emit light and planets reflect light.

A star in itself is a self sufficient nuclear reactor radiating energy by fusing hydrogen atoms into helium. the light from the source takes a while to reach ur eyes. some are planets?? ur kinda confused. and yes our sun is a old star( 5 billion years old)

-
Stars are basically big balls of gas they are not planets, yes our sun is a star, and starlight is produced by the combustion reactions that occur between the star's gasses which burn and produce light

-
Stars are not planets. They may have planets around them but what you see in the sky are the stars themselves. They each produce their own light. (galaxies excluded, galaxies are millions of stars seen together)
