Still we need to keep our distance to them because they are wild animals.

They have strong jaws and sharp teeth. If they are in the wild, you don't need to keep your distance, because they won't let you get very close anyway. If you can get close, then you won't be attacked either. Either they are used to having people around them, and therefore allow you to get close, or they are not aware that you have sneaked up to them. In either case, they are likely to just slip away instead of attacking you. If you can raise them as babies in captivity, they can be quite tame. They are by no means vicious animals and captives get along just fine with cats and dogs and people.

I have seen both mink and otter in nature. We have many rivers in my home village, and it was not unusual to hear stories about these animals, sneaking up behind the unlucky fisherman, stealing from the catch.
