I found a tiny spider with a violin on it's back. I want to freeze it till it is completely dead so that I can really investigate it (its eye pattern, for instance) in order to confirm that it is, in fact, a brown recluse.
How long do I keep it in my freezer??
Thanks!
(ps: I dont normally kill spiders--but these kind can be fatally harmful, so I think my family and I are more important. Please, no "save the nature" talk!)

I have no experience with this kind of stuff, but I would assume at least a day or two. The last thing you want is it jumping on your face as you get close to it.
I looked up a question similar to yours, and got no results.
I do know that spiders do not freeze out in the cold, so in the freezer may have no luck, as well.
You could actually do an experiment and post your results: how long does it take to freeze a spider?
*To the person above me: spiders are not insects.

Insects can not feel, They do have nerves to for the brain and ganglia but scientist have agreed that insects can not feel pain. I would personally smash it with a boot if it was poisonous since it is quick and guaranteed. or just placing him outside. If you are deadset on freezing the critter, 1-2 hours depending on the cold setting maybe even longer, I have never used this method.
