Please help! What spider could this have been?! 10 points

So I just had an incident where a spider was on my bed and very very close to my leg. I just found out it was a spider because I woke my mom up and we lifted my mattress. I only saw it quickly and it didn't look brown to me. When I first saw it on my bed it looked red and yellow. When it moved it looked gray mixed with a light brown. It is huge and it looked to me like it has more legs pointing to the front than to the back. My mom said she saw it was mostly brown but when I asked if she saw any other colors she said she didn't know. She has a fear as well and we both only looked for two seconds. I seriously had a mental breakdown and refused to lift the mattress again which results in us being unable to kill it. I honestly don't think this is a brown recluse spider although where I live (North Jersey Sussex County) I see them a lot. I looked at pictures and what not and I think the spider in my room is too big to be a brown recluse. Can someone please help? Spider knowledge? Or a list of pictures and names. I tried googling but found nothing useful.
