Insects are usually only aware of us when we are a potential threat to their survival. As long as you ignore and don't threaten them in some way by moving, they will usually ignore you or move away . My father was a Ph.D. medical entomologist, so I learned from somebody who most people would consider to be an expert. The insect is usually just as scared, or more scared, of you as you are of the insect.

I think we must be too big for them to contemplate and when we kill them, accidentally or deliberately that they see it as some kind of natural disaster.
Just my opinion though, maybe they do see us as big giant scary things.
