Whos to say what some people are thinking? Will it ever change? This is much like asking if radical Muslims and radical Jews are ever going to just get along.I should certainly hope so. Sadly,I dont expect to see it my lifetime.......
Maybe these people DO know the critter feels pain, but because a lobster isn't fluffy and cuddly, they don't empathize with it as much as they would a puppy being boiled alive. Perhaps they are simply in denial. Who's to say what some people are thinking?

ETA: I did not see in this question where the OP was trying to dictate another person's eating habits. For the ones who feel this is the case, could you please point out where this happened? I'm not seeing it at all. I just saw the OP maybe making some people maybe a little defensive and perhaps even a little uncomfortable.

We've been taught not to value animal lives. Look at people who couldn't care less about how they treat their pets, and these are animals they have some sort of connection to. So when they see something that looks like a giant red bug, they don't have a problem with putting it through that much pain. Or the people that can see videos of how cattle and poultry are raised and butchered, and then go right out and order a burger and not feel a thing.
I think it is getting better though. With those "in the arms of an angel" commercials, and the word getting out about these foods and how they are prepared, people are starting to take action against it, even if it is a slow process.
Boiling them is actually the most humane way to kill them. They go in the water head first and the boiling water kills them almost instantaneously. They can be stabbed behind the eyes like a cow to kill them before entering the water, but their nervous system is very primitive so it would continue to twitch uncontrollably before dying, so it would be in agony.Personally, I could never bring myself to drop a living creature in boiling water then eat it so i just get the tails. But yeah, boiling really is the most humane way to go.
