Found this spider hiding between the rose petals:

I just took this picture, it is about the size of a dime or less when legs are fully extended. Looks real scary.
This is Northern California (April 22). Your expertise is appreciated.

Good picture. Looks to be some kind of Jumping Spider. Lemme looks for a minute and see if I can get you a better guess, but I'm pretty sure it's some kind of jumper.
** Ok...see if this is the guy: Johnson Jumping Spider
I don't know if all jumping spiders are like this or not, but some have 360° vision...can see in color, can see contrast and can even see in infrared I believe. Very kewl actually, and they are very accurate and purposeful jumpers, and...they are very intelligent critters too. This is my own knowledge on this part.

This is definitely a jumping spider family (Salticidae). I will try to narrow down the exact type for you. They can give a little bite but it wouldn't be a serious bite and they usually jump away rather than bother.
It looks pretty closely related to Boreal Jumping Spider (Phidippus clarus .)

No just a harmless jumping spider. So there is no reason to kill it. :D
