the pressure increases. d. the pressure first increases and then decreases.a. the pressure decreases.Pressure is fixed,......
When the area over which pressure is applied is increased,
a. the pressure decreases.
b. the force on that area increases.
c. the pressure increases.
d. the pressure first increases and then decreases.

-
P = F/A
so
increase A (on the bottom) and the fraction becomes smaller
a. the pressure decreases.

-
So many wrong answers

Pressure is fixed, it doesn't change in this problem
.
Pressure is force per unit area, so force is pressure x area. Increase the area and the force goes up (b)

-
a)...Pressure decreases.

Example. 50 lbf acting on an area of 10 in² = 50 lbf / 10 in² = 5psi.

If the area increases to 12 in² = 50 lbf / 12 in² = 4.17 psi.

-
a. pressure decreases

because P = F/a

P = pressure, F = force, and a = area.

-
i guess it would be A. but its not worded correctly. the pressure isnt decressing the force applied to the area is decreasing.
