How do forces acting on us change when we are in a swimming pool, or well fresh water in general (weight, gravity, buoyancy etc.)
-
The water exerts a net upward (buoyant) force equal to the weight of the displaced water.
Thus, you feel ALMOST weightless, because the weight of your body is
not MUCH more than the weight of the displaced water. You can get to the bottom and stay there,
but it takes only a little force (pushing off with your feet) to get you back to the surface,
because the buoyant force helps you. You wouldn't be able to high-jump 2 or 3 meters,
but it's easy to push yourself up through this distance in the water, even if you don't
try to "swim" as you go.
