Does it measure current in microamperes across the plates? Or capacitance? Does anyone know the technical details of the red light?
Second question. My green light is on. But how do I know the electrostatic energy is really taking place? Is there a simple test for electrostatic action? I don't seem to be accumulating much dust.

1st: it's just resistance it measures. how it measures it is probably similar to how digital voltmeters measure it, by passing sample current through it.
2nd: my moving something close whose charge is easily influenced you can test the static charge (like maybe balloon?)
