I don't necessarily need the answer to this, but I need someone to show me how to do this homework problem. I know it has something to do with inelastic and elastic momentum, but the only equations I know for momentum are: P(momentum)= (Mass)(Velocity) and (Force)(Time)= P(momentum). I know the law of conservation of momentum, but I just don't see how I can figure this problem out:
Kim holds a 2.0 kg air reflie loosely and fired a bullet with a mass of .001 kg. The muzzle velocity of the bullet is 150 m/s. What is the recoil speed of the rifle?

By the law of momentum conservation:-
=>m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2
=>0+0 = 2 x v1 + 0.001 x 150
=>v1 = - 0.075 m/s[-ve indicate that the direction of v1 is opposite to v2]
=>m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2
=>0+0 = 2 x v1 + 0.001 x 150
=>v1 = - 0.075 m/s[-ve indicate that the direction of v1 is opposite to v2]
