Mysteries = things unknown, undiscovered or unexplained.

That's a loaded question; in reality, we haven't lived on this planet for very long at all. Humans have lived on the earth for 500,000 to 2.5 million years now (depending on how you define human). Compare that to over 4 billion years (2.5 million at most vs over 4,000 million) the earth has been around. Then consider that we have only had organized civilization that would permit any of us to focus on solving mysteries rather than just struggling to survive for about 6000 years. Then further consider that rapid progress in science and technology really started less than 200 years ago.
When you look at how puny we are in the grand scheme of everything, and couple that with the fact that we constantly deal with wars and other nonsense that hold back efforts to discover, it's amazing that we know anything at all.

The scientific method for finding truth is just about 200 years old. Before this, people looked for people in authority for truth. People in authority, kings and priests, have no truth to explain mysteries. Religion today is still preventing people from understanding and questioning events. Also, to understand a mystery, one must experiment. Experiments are only conducted when we have control over the event. Normal common morallity stops us from many experiments.

Simple, if everything was known to us in the entire Universal, what would drive us forward, what would motivate us to find the next big thing?
-
our abilities to discover and percieve are now dependent upon the state of scientific progress.
