Can a sharp, diamond bullet going 100mph pierce 200,000 rolls of paper towels

000 rolls of paper towels is huge.-What underworld do you live in?The bullet you speak of sounds to be about as rare as a heterosexual unicorn.Bullets travel at different speeds. Bullets from handguns and rifles can travel from a few hundred feet per second to several thousand feet per second. There are 5280 ft.......
Me and my friend are arguing about this. I say it can, he says it can't.

The only way to know for sure is to run the experiment. Be sure to report back here with the results!

But I'd bet that it would not. 100 MPH is actually very slow in the world of bullets. And the amount of kinetic energy that it would take to cut through 200,000 rolls of paper towels is huge.

Bullets travel at different speeds. Bullets from handguns and rifles can travel from a few hundred feet per second to several thousand feet per second.
There are 5280 ft. in a mile
There are 3600 seconds in an hour
Therefore, 1000/5280 = 0.18939 miles per second
0.18939 X 3600 = 681.8 mph So 1000 FPS = 681.1 M.P.H

So, in relation to that data, a bullet traveling 100MPH is pretty slow. Hypothetically, your "sharp, diamond bullet" would penetrate some rolls of paper towels, however nothing close to 200,000.

simple approximate estimate for all impact problems

Momentum = Mass * velocity of bullet

it changes from M* V to M *0 or 0 momentum of bullet
it goes through or sticks in the target

the target ( or pieces of it) moves away with same momentum the bullet had
for more complicated reasons the fastest the target can move away is 2 times the bullet speed or less

SO mass bullet * speed bullet = P = Mass target * speed target

now deep can it penetrate? the target has density = mass per unit volume

the volume of the target hole stuff is about the area of bullet , times penetration distance
(roughly) into the target. if the required distance is greater than the thickness of the target, the bullet goes through. if the target is very think the bullet sticks inside

the hardness or sharpness of the bullet makes NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL
